50 companies from Guangzhou met Cambodian companies seeking for partnership during ASEAN-Guangzhou Economic & Business Week at Nagaworld Hotel in Phnom Penh on June 09, 2010.  Mr. You Roheng, vice president of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Guangzhou, said that the delegations consist of companies, associations, and government officials and that CCPIT have organized ASEAN-Guangzhou Economic & Business Week for the total duration of 7 days in different countries, including Cambodia the last one. This event would strengthen the continuous business cooperation between Guangzhou and Cambodia. It is expected that the following goal would be achieved: (1) to benefit mutually from satisfaction the market demand, (2) to enhance the scope of cooperation to services and modern tourism sector, and (3) to create the opportunity for cooperation among people.

Neak Oknha Kith Meng, president of Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, emphasized in his keynote speech that the diplomatic cooperation between Cambodia and China had started since 1296 when the famous Chinese diplomat Zhou Daguan passed by Guangzhou on his way to Cambodia. Regarding business relationship between Cambodia and China, over the last 15 years, China has invested over $6 billion in Cambodia, in areas such as hydropower, trading, tourism, agriculture, telecommunication and infrastructure. China has built more than 1500km of roads and constructed a number of large scale hydro dams. Cambodia has a big potential for Chinese investors since we have a pool of large and growing labor, political stability, and ongoing investments in infrastructure. Neak Oknha Kith Meng envisioned that, in the long term, Cambodia will return to the 10% economic growth again similarly to China.

Following Neak Oknha’s speech, there was a presentation on famous products in Guangzhou: (1) Guangdon Leather Association, specialized in leather products, (2) Guangzhou Light Industry & Trade group, famous brand name such as Tiger Head, and 555 battery, (3) Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Group, (4) Guangzhou Furniture Association, and (5) Guangzhou Automobile Group Autobus Co., Ltd. Then at 11 am, all participants had lunch and continue the partnership discussion.
The event finished with fruitful result in friendly atmosphere.
