Mr. Herman Z. Ongkiko, team leader for ADB-assisted GMS Corridor Towns Development Project, met his H.E Nguon Meng Tech, director general of Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC) on August 02, 2012. The purpose of the meeting is to obtain inputs from CCC on how private sector could participate in town development at border check points. Mr. Herman mentioned about the possibility of establishing dry port at Poiy Pet and market construction at Nak Loeung. Once the feasibility study has been completed, the team will prepare bidding document and announce to the public.
H.E Nguon Meng Tech suggested the team to design a clear concept on what the dry port or market look like and then invite the private sector invest. If these projects are profitable, it is sure enough that the private sector will participate. The projects should be regulated by the government and operated by private business. CCC will disseminate this information among its potential members. On his own opinion, H.E Nguon Meng Tech believes that the dry port at Poiy Pet check point would increase the trade volume and ease the flow of tourists across border. Currently, the large trucks have to park a long main road because there is no designated zone for parking or bypassing yet. This causes traffic congestion and make the flow of goods and people slower.
