Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to enhance trade relation with Cambodia

On the 29 October 29, 2012, Mr. Gregory So Kam-leung, the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and his delegates had a meeting with NeakOknha Kith Meng, the President of Cambodia Chamber of Commerce. The purpose of the meeting is to foster trade and economic ties and create more opportunity in two places.

Secretary So expressed his interest in Cambodia potential market. He said, “This is the first time for me to visit Cambodia. I am impressed by its economic growth. I see a lot of opportunity here and I would like to talk with CCC on how we can enhance more cooperation.”  Hong Kong is one of the main transit points in the world for goods and services. It also plays a strategic role in ASEAN trade. Annually, the ASEAN trade volume with Hong Kongis more than 10% of total trade volume.

NeakOknha Kith Meng shared the same view point with Secretary So. He said, “CCC will strengthen its cooperation with Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. CCC will organize a business trip to Hong Kong. It is a good experience for Cambodian businessmen to learn from Hong Kong, a role model for free trade zoneand economic development.” He also encouraged Hong Kong investors to invest in Cambodia in restaurant and shopping industry since Hong Kong is famous in these two areas. To ease to business flow from Cambodia to Hong Kong, he suggested a Visa waived for Cambodia businessmen who wish to visit Hong Kong because so far the Visa application is somehow a constraint to go in and out of Hong Kong.
