Secretariat of China-ASEAN Expo invites Neak Oknha Kith Meng, president of Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC); and CCC members to attend the Expo in Nanning, China on October 20-24, 2010. Mr. Nong Rong, the Vice Secretary General of China-ASEAN Expo said, “This event is a good opportunity for investors around the world to meet in China, the biggest market with 1.9 billion customers.” He added, “If Chinese people ate just only one kilogram of rice, Cambodia would not be able to fulfill this demand. The market size is huge.” China would like to see not only import and export from both Countries but also direct investment.
Regarding China-ASEAn Expo, he asked for cooperation from CCC to disseminate information on the Expo and its benefits to CCC members, and requested for a list of members so that he could contact them directly. He also would like to know about specific sectors that CCC would lik e to see. China-ASEAN Secretariat will arrange special condition Cambodian delegation and try to get direct charter from Phnom Penh to Nanning.
Neak Oknha Hann Khieng, Vice-president of CCC and representative of Neak Oknha Kith Meng, welcomed Chinese delegation and thanked for special arrangement. He briefed the delegation the overview and roles of CCC on private sector development. He said business activities have been developed a lot year to year. For example rice production, although Cambodia grows rice only twice a year, the production yield is almost equivalent to the one in Vietnam and Thailand. However, the import and export between Cambodia and the neighbor countries are not balanced. Regarding export from Cambodia to China, it is not up to the level it should be yet and sometimes it is indirect, i.e. through third country. Oknha Hann Khieng encouraged more direct trade relation and investment between the two countries. For the Expo, he said, CCC would fully support and assist in any ways possible.
